Dark Circles Around Eyes and Their Treatment

Causes of Dark Circles Around Eyes

Dark circles around the eyes have multiple causes, which are briefly referred to:

1- People with allergies

2- In atopic individuals prone to respiratory and skin allergies

3- Genetics – Some individuals with darker skin have more dark circles around the eyes

4- Internal issues such as anemia, iron deficiency, and thyroid disorders

5- Fatigue and lack of sleep contribute to worsening dark circles around the eyes in specific conditions

Dark circles under the eyes are usually not associated with stress and lack of sleep and may be genetic. These dark circles worsen with fatigue and menstrual habits.

Various home remedies are suggested for treating dark circles around the eyes, which can briefly include compress with cucumber rings, cold tea bag compress, abundant fluid intake, abundant cold water wash, consumption of vegetables and sufficient fluids. These methods have no significant effect on treating dark circles around the eyes.

Medical methods for treating dark circles around the eyes:

1- Suitable Eye Cream:

Using a suitable eye cream is recommended from around the age of 30 and can somewhat prevent the exacerbation of aging signs around the eyes. However, in individuals with allergies, the best treatment would be allergy treatment as these individuals may be sensitive to eye creams and experience dryness, itching, and increased dark circles.

2- Mesotherapy:

In this method, by injecting drugs such as vitamin K, retinol, and various fruit acids under the skin of the eyes, the skin in this area can be somewhat brightened.

3- PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma):

In this method, the individual’s blood is taken in special kits, and after centrifugation and platelet activation, the resulting substance is injected around the eyes. PRP tightens and brightens the skin around the eyes by collagenizing the skin and eliminates fine wrinkles around the eyes, rejuvenating the eyelid skin.

PRP is recommended in 3 sessions with a 3-month interval for dark circles around the eyes. The PRP method has a good and acceptable effect in treating dark circles around the eyes. This method will be very useful, especially in individuals with allergies. There is no risk of sensitivity or transmission of any disease due to the use of the individual’s own blood.

4- Fat Injection:

In cases where hollows around the eyes are accompanied by dark circles, performing fat injection along with PRP will be a very suitable solution. In this method, in addition to creating volume, dark circles around the eyes will also significantly improve. One of the advantages of this method is the absence of the use of any external substance; therefore, there will be no risk of sensitivity.
